Stoneware

First taught to throw by my father when I was four I have spent a large part of my life on the wheel. The pieces I have chosen to exhibit here on the website are Stoneware and fired to 1260 degrees.

Having experimented with thousands of glazes and colours over my career I find the simple monotone combination I use on these pieces has remained my favourite when painting on stoneware. The subtle Semi-matt Zinc glaze of Emmanuel Coopers is a perfect background with a lovely tendency to bring out a hint blue from the Daniel Rhodes soot black pigment.

My thrown pieces vary in size from 4 inches up to 22 inches in diameter. The work appearing here is mainly small pots suitable for posting.
